GitHub tokens are only needed when you want to access private repositories or exceed GitHub API rate limit. GitHub tokens are stored in your browser extension storage and Octotree only uses them to authenticate with GitHub. If you use the bookmark feature, the name and URL of the items you bookmark are stored on our server so that they can be displayed when you use Octotree on another browser or machine.
